The Entertainer Blogger Award

D at D Talks Anime (https://dtalksanime.wordpress.com/2017/06/16/the-entertainer-blogger-award/) nominated me for The Entertainer Blogger Award a few weeks ago, and now I’m finally getting around to saying thank you. To anyone who is an anime fan, I definitely recommend checking out D’s blog. It is full of lively discussions and anime reviews, including posts on individual episodes of some of the newer series that have caught D’s interest.

The Rules:

Thank the person who nominated you and provide a link to their blog.Add these rules to your post. Answer all the questions below. Display the award picture in your post. Nominate 12 other bloggers who are funny, inspiring and most important of all entertaining!

The Questions:

Why did you start a blog in the first place?

For a long time I’d been trying to learn from articles and books on writing, gradually building what I’d learned into a series of “notes”. I felt confident there was still more to learn, but I wasn’t sure what. I decided to post my existing notes as writing posts, and hope that through the comments I would learn even more, and perhaps help others as well.

But over time my focus has shifted, and while learning is still a big part of why I blog, the sense of community is probably my biggest motive to continue blogging. The internet as a whole may have a reputation for hostile responses, but I have been fortunate enough to find many generous people who are truly interested in having good conversations; people who offer their insights freely, and for that I am very grateful to all of you.

What is your favorite book?

Mistborn is probably one of my favorite “fun reads”. Despite the bleak setting, and sometimes grim plot, there is an aggressive cheerfulness to the main character, Kelsier, that truly warms the heart.

God Emperor of Dune is probably my favorite intellectual/philosophical work of fiction. The complexities of the main character, Leto II, and the underlying ideas that are engaged by his conversations, make that story incredibly rich, though not necessarily as fun as some other stories may be.

What do you dislike the most?

Arrogance, presumption, and the general belief that “I know”, in contrast with those who say “I have an idea, but let’s consider other possibilities.”

I think the most common form is when one person politely expresses their opinion, positive or negative, and others react with such intensity. “What! How can you say that!”

I also don’t like selfishness. Of course there are times when everyone needs and deserves to be a little selfish, but I think there are also times, where it’s important to help and support others in achieving their desires, instead of focusing on one’s own agenda.

I’d also like to add that one of the things I most like are simple, random acts of kindness from a friend; those random times where someone does something nice for you, and it’s not on the heels of a kind act you did for them, or because you’re feeling blue. It’s just a random moment where they decided to do something small, and that’s also a big factor. It’s often the small things that truly carry the greatest weight.

What is your favorite food at the mall?

Pretzels or pretzel bites. I feel like that’s one of the few foods I like that I have yet to make at home with any success. Of course in many cases I still prefer to pay someone else to make them, but it’s nice to know that I can.

What is your favorite past time?

I love stories; reading first, watching second, and playing & listening can argue over who gets number 3.

I also love to swim, preferably in natural bodies of water, and of course, I am a big fan of boffer, particularly when you’ve got teams of a dozen or more players on the field.

And now…The Nominees:

It’s always difficult to choose who to nominate among so many. Here are my 12. Please don’t feel pressured if you prefer not to participate.

    • It’s a term for when you take a PVC pipe and cover it in foam and duct tape to create a padded simulacrum of melee weapons. There are different levels of LARP that use them. Some just like to get together and play various games with them, and call the games “boffer” as well.

  1. I learned something new today (Boffer). Seen that sort of thing at conventions. Seems like good stress relief haha.

Since a young age I have enjoyed writing reviews, but I probably wouldn’t continue if it wasn’t for the community either. Thankfully the readers at WordPress are nice. If you want to find hostile followers start a Youtube channel.

  2. Congratulations on your award : you deserve it 😀 Loved reading your answers to the questions as well. Could not agree with you more on the acts of kindness you mention. It can sometimes really make your day when that happens 😊
And ofcourse thank you very much for nominating me: really appreciate it 😊

  3. Thank you!

I’m with you on not liking arrogance. The older I get, the more I realize how little I know. We need to have humility, even in areas where we consider ourselves experts. There’s always something we don’t know.

      • Romance… I adore a good love story. That’s kind of my thing. Still getting over Olivia. Trying to find my happy place. (Shaking head vigorously while she’s walking towards me with whip in tow. Ugh!)
