Anything But Books Tag

Following in the footsteps of Jessica Bakkers, whom I recommend to anyone in need of a good read, here is a series of random facts about myself.

1. Name a cartoon that you love. Childhood or now.

Favorite cartoon is a tough challenge. From my childhood I’d probably choose Mighty Max, though runners up include Batman the animated series and Pinky & the Brain.

More recently I’ve been very impressed with Rick and Morty, as well as Gravity Falls.

2. What is your favourite song right now?

Favorite song has been Elsewhere by Sarah McLachlan for a long time.

3. What could you do for hours that isn’t reading.

If I wasn’t reading or writing I would choose swimming, hiking, or playing boffer.

4. What is something that you like to do that your followers would be surprised by?

I think most who know me would be surprised to learn that I do in fact like to lead, but it’s part of my nature to let others lead if they wish to.

5. Favourite unnecessarily specific thing to learn about?

I’ve always been fascinated by all forms of crafting. Hand made items and the skills to make them have always fascinated me.

6. What is something unusual you know how to do?

I’m usually pretty good at reading people. Sadly I tend to express myself in odd ways, so I’m often misunderstood.

7. Name something you’ve made in the last year and show it if possible.

One thing I’ve recently made that I’m very proud of is a boffer halberd, using joints. For a long time I was taught that joints would inevitably lead to broken PVC, but after some trial and error I found a way, and now my halberds are a regular sight at the monthly games.

8. What is your most recent personal project?

My current project is a book review for Heretics of Dune.

9. What is something you think about often, maybe while staring out windows?

When left to my own devices I often wonder at the oddness of the modern world. I like to consider things from the perspective of an outsider, and recognize how relative the concept of “normal” really is.

10. Something that is your favourite but not obvious?

Card Captor Sakura is an unexpected favorite among anime for me. Most of the stories I like feature serious conflicts with dire consequences, but Card Captor Sakura is a wonderfully light narrative that tries to paint different characters as “the bad guy”, but can’t resist revealing how each is really a kind-hearted soul who is in fact doing the right thing.

11. Say the first thing that pops into your head.

Kltpzyxm! (always feels suitably random, unless someone goes poof.)

So now, over to you.
