Although I believe Halloween is more than just “scary”, fear is a large part of Halloween, and I think it can be a real challenge to find good scary stories (recognizing that good is a very subjective thing).

Since I am so passionate about stories, a big part of Halloween for me is reading and watching some nice spooky stories. Over the next few posts I’ll be offering up some of my favorites, starting with books to read.
Why I love Halloween
As October is upon us, I’d like to celebrate my love of this magical time with a few posts to celebrate all the things I like about and like to do during Halloween season. And what better place to start than with the most basic of questions, why?
Rite
Branches slapped against my arm. The brush was too thick. I couldn’t see a thing, but I couldn’t stop. I’d never catch up. A sudden opening left me with three steps before the drop. I never slowed. Boughs broke my fall. Loose stone groaned under my feet. Something else crashed through the brush, off to the left. He was close. I ran again, taking great leaps whenever I could, hoping to avoid any holes.
